The temperature on the coastal areas varies between 22°C in winter and 34°C in summer. The sea temperature varies between 22°C and 27°C. The western and northern regions are warmer and relatively drier than the East and the South.

From Trou aux Cerfs, a 700 000 year old dormant volcano, you will enjoy the panoramic view of the surrounding towns and peaks of the South West of the island. Visit of one of the most important tea factories of the island at Bois Chéri. From the coconut-flavoured tea to the vanilla one, experience this unique tropical taste and learn more about the different steps to process tea leaves. Drive along the Plaine Champagne road and stop at Grand Bassin, a sacred lake for the Hindus. The Black River Gorges overlook the west coast. Proceed to the Seven Coloured Earths of Chamarel, a unique volcanic phenomenon.

The Pamplemousses Gardens, with its wide variety of indigenous and endemic plants, are one of the oldest in the southern hemisphere. Discover the sugar world in Beau Plan, an old sugar cane factory where you will understand how this plant played an important role in our development.

Port Louis was founded during the French colonial period. Its historical monuments are a witness of its past splendour whereas its economic development can be seen in the activities around the harbour. Visit the Blue Penny museum, retracing the history of Mauritius and exhibiting two of the world’s most precious stamps.

Ile Aux Aigrettes / Manioc Biscuit Factory / Saint Aubin / “La Vanille Réserve des Mascareignes”.
In the historical bay of Vieux Grand Port on the south-east coast of the island, discover the nature reserve of “Ile aux Aigrettes” which constitutes a refuge for endemic species of animals including the Mauritius Pink Pigeon and the Ornate Day Gecko. Mahébourg, whose name honours the famous French governor Mahé de Labourdonnais, is the village where you can taste the

traditional “biscuit manioc”, made from cassava according to an old family recipe. Visit an anthurium and a vanilla nursery, as well as the Rum museum at Saint Aubin, a colonial house built in 1819. La Vanille Réserve des Mascareignes » constitutes a refuge for lethargic crocodiles, bats, giant tortoises and other reptiles. An insectarium presents more than 20,000 species of insects from different regions of the world.
